Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 born on May 25, 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She is also twice an Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" as well as the in 2016 the "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She took home a gold team medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have two consecutive gold medals from this event. Raisman also earned silver medals in the individual all-around,aas well as for the floor exercise. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the individual all-around and also for the floor exercise. She is also a two time national champion in floor exercise (2012 and 2015) as well as the 2012 national champion in balance beam. She's also five times a national champion in all-around competitions at national championships (silver, bronze, 2010 2011 and 2015.). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high-school gymnast, and Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and states that "I am very grateful for being able not only to represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community all over the world." "Raisman started gymnastics when she was eighteen months old. She credits her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's squad that took home the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete began her training at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, then transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was instructed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012 following her senior year with online classes while training for the Olympics.
