  Kerstin Aita Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29/09/1931 11/01/2015) was an Swedish actress, known for her attractive and striking physique. Her iconic role of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) made her famous. Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a model during her teens. In response to the wishes from her mother Ekberg participated in Miss Malmo in 1950. The contest was won by her in the Miss Sweden contest. Despite speaking little English she travelled to the United States to compete for the Miss Universe 1951 title. It was an unofficial pageant at the time. The pageant officially became official in 1952. Ekberg was not the Miss Universe winner, but she was among six contestants. She did , however, earn an endorsement from Universal Studios as a starlet. As a student at a performing arts high school, she won the Coca-Cola Classic Talent Contest & participated in several plays at The Actors Theatre of Louisville.
